Associate Chemist

Job Description

We are looking for a candidate to provide technical support for our formulation and coating development work. The individual must be self-motivated, be able to understand and follow detailed verbal and written instructions, and have a positive and flexible attitude with the ability to adapt to changing priorities. This is a hands-on position where most of the chemist’s time will be spent in the company’s laboratories and cleanroom.

Position Duties

Provide technical support or assistance to chemists/engineers in setting up and conducting chemical syntheses and characterizing formulations.
Assist with liquid coating process development, including substrate/part cleaning, pretreatment, coating, curing and characterization.
Comprehensive familiarity with EH&S (OSHA, CUPA, DTSC, HazMat) regulatory compliance and record keeping.
Diligently follow SOPs, document observations and critical parameters.
Maintaining, cleaning lab equipment and instruments.
Writing technical reports or preparing graphs and charts to document experimental results.
Ordering, inventorying chemicals and lab supplies.

Desired Skills & Experience

B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related technical field with 2-5 years R&D experience in chemical synthesis and/or coating using solution deposition techniques. Exceptional candidates with less formal education but relevant on-the-job experience will also be considered.
Additional Qualifications

Knowledge and experience in sol-gel chemistry and solution deposition-based coating techniques is a big plus.
Experience working with glove boxes and moisture/air sensitive materials is desired.
Familiarity working in a cleanroom environment, with precision analytical equipment as well as working in small teams or at a startup is a plus.
Possess good communication skills and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
